CommentSafe
Terms of service
What you get, what it costs, and the one thing you should understand before you let software moderate for you: rejecting a comment cannot be undone.
The agreement
These terms are between you and Brass Ridge LLC, which operates CommentSafe at commentsafe.app. By signing in, starting a trial or connecting a channel, you accept them.
Your data is covered by the privacy policy, and removal is covered by deleting your data. Both are part of this agreement.
What CommentSafe does
You connect one YouTube channel. We watch for new comments and replies on it. Each new comment is scored by an automated model on four questions: is it spam, is it impersonating you, is it phishing, is it abusive. Our code, not the model, then decides what happens.
With the settings we ship:
- phishing or impersonation scoring 0.90 or above is rejected straight away;
- spam or abuse scoring 0.90 or above is hidden from the public, and you have 7 days to restore it before it is rejected;
- anything between 0.55 and 0.90 is held for you to look at;
- anything below that is left public and we keep no record of it.
You can change every one of those numbers, switch categories off, pause the worker, or turn on auto-ban. You get a queue in the app and a daily email digest. We never post, reply, heart or pin as you.
Some of this cannot be undone
That constraint shapes the whole product, and it is the single most important thing to understand before you let software moderate for you.
- The tool is automated, and it will sometimes be wrong. It reads comments literally. Sarcasm, an in-joke, a fan quoting a scammer back at them, or a language the model handles poorly can all score high. No threshold makes that risk zero.
- That is why the defaults are two-tier. Only phishing and impersonation are rejected outright, because nobody wants those back. Spam and abuse are hidden first, with 7 days for you to change your mind. Everything uncertain waits for you rather than being acted on.
- Auto-ban is off unless you turn it on. When it is on it fires only on impersonation and phishing rejects at or above your ban threshold, which ships at 0.95. The app confirms every manual ban and tells you it cannot be undone.
- Your thresholds are your responsibility. Lowering the reject floor, or setting the auto-reject delay to 0, makes permanent mistakes more likely. The app warns you at the point of change. The decision, and its consequences, are yours.
- If you would rather review everything, raise the reject and hide floors so every action becomes a hold. Nothing then leaves your comment section without you pressing a button.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for a comment that was hidden, rejected, restored or left public, or for an author who was banned — whether the automation did it under your settings, or you clicked the button yourself. That is the trade you accept when you delegate moderation to software, and we would rather say it here than bury it.
Your account and your channel
- One Google account, one connected YouTube channel, one subscription. Connecting a second channel means a second subscription.
- You must own the channel you connect, or be authorised by its owner to moderate it. Connecting a channel you have no right to moderate is a breach of these terms and we will close the account.
- Keep your Google account secure. Anything done through your session is treated as done by you.
- You remain responsible for your channel, including complying with the YouTube Terms of Service and YouTube’s policies. We are a tool you point at your own comment section; we do not become the publisher of it.
- No moderator seats in this version. Do not share your login so that someone else can moderate on your behalf.
Price, trial and cancelling
- CommentSafe costs $19 per month for one connected channel, in US dollars, plus any tax we are required to collect.
- The trial is 14 days and requires a card up front. We do not charge during the trial. If you do not cancel before it ends, the first month is charged automatically.
- Billing runs through Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe directly and we never see or store them.
- Cancel at any time from the Stripe customer portal, linked in Settings. Cancelling stops the next charge; your subscription keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- After that, the worker pauses. Your channel stays connected for 30 days in case you come back, and is then disconnected with our access token revoked. Stored comment text expires on its usual 28-day schedule throughout.
- Deleting your account is the other exit, and it is not the same one. Deleting cancels the subscription immediately rather than at period end, because nothing is left to serve you with: the account, the channel connection and every record go in the same action. The unused part of the month you already paid for is not refunded. If you want those days, cancel in the portal first and delete once the period has run out. Deleting your data spells all of this out.
- If a payment fails, Stripe retries. Your account moves to past due and you get a 3-day grace period with a banner in the app; after that the worker stops until payment succeeds.
- Fees are non-refundable, and we do not pro-rate a partial month, however the subscription ends. We may make an exception at our discretion, and we always refund a charge that landed after you deleted your account.
- One plan. No annual billing, coupons or team pricing at the moment. If we add them, this page changes first.
We can change the price. If we do, we will tell existing subscribers by email in advance, and the new price applies from the first billing period after that notice. If you do not want to pay it, cancel before then.
Acceptable use
We do not tell you how to run your own comment section; that is the whole point of the settings. But you may not:
- connect a channel you do not own and are not authorised to moderate;
- use CommentSafe to harass a person, to coordinate a pile-on, or for anything unlawful;
- attack, overload, scrape or reverse engineer the service, or work around its rate limits and quota controls;
- resell, sublicense or rebrand CommentSafe, or run it as a service for other people;
- access it by automation other than the product itself;
- use it in a way that risks our access to the YouTube API — for example, deliberate load testing against a live channel, or anything that would put our Google project out of compliance.
The YouTube API gives our whole project a fixed number of calls per day. When we reach it, comments are still scored but enforcement pauses and items land in your queue instead, and you will see a banner. That is a shared limit, which is why the rules above matter to everyone else using the product.
Suspension and closing an account
- We can suspend or close an account at our discretion — for example for non-payment, a breach of these terms, abuse of the service, a risk to our API access, or where Google, YouTube or the law requires it — with or without notice.
- You can close your account at any time from Settings. That cancels the subscription in the same action, so nothing keeps billing after the account is gone. Deleting your data lists exactly what is erased, what survives, and what happens to the rest of the month.
- We may discontinue CommentSafe, or any part of it, at any time. If we shut it down, we will give reasonable notice where we can, stop billing, and keep the disconnect and deletion routes working until the last day.
The service will change, and sometimes break
CommentSafe is a small, independently run product. Features will be added, changed and removed. It also depends on Google, YouTube, Stripe, Resend, TypeSafe and Cloudflare: when one of them is down, rate-limits us, or changes an API, CommentSafe can be slowed, degraded or stopped through no fault of either of us.
There is no uptime guarantee and no service level agreement. We aim to act on a comment within minutes of it being posted, and the dashboard shows the last successful check so you can see for yourself whether that is holding. It is a design target, not a promise.
No warranty
CommentSafe is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
In particular, we do not warrant that the model will catch every scam comment, that it will never act on a comment it should have left alone, that your queue will be short, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Some places do not allow these exclusions. Where that is true, this section applies as far as the law there allows and no further.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither we nor anyone working with us is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost audience, lost goodwill, or the content of comments that were hidden, rejected, restored or left public, or for authors who were banned.
Our total liability for all claims relating to CommentSafe is capped at the lesser of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim and US$100. If you were on a free trial and had paid nothing, that cap is nothing.
Your responsibility to us
You will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Brass Ridge LLC and anyone working with it against any claim, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your channel and its content, your moderation settings and the actions taken under them, your use of CommentSafe, or your breach of these terms or of Google’s and YouTube’s terms.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms at any time by posting the new version here, and the “Last updated” date at the top always moves with it. For a material change we will also try to tell you by email or in the app. The new version applies from the date it is posted, and continuing to use CommentSafe after that means you accept it; if you would rather not, cancel and disconnect.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Brass Ridge LLC is organised, and the federal laws of the United States that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts in that state have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you consent to them, except that we may seek an injunction anywhere necessary to protect the service or our intellectual property.
Any claim must be brought individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in a class, collective or representative action, and to the extent the law allows, both of us waive a jury trial. Any claim must be brought within one year of the event that gave rise to it, or it is permanently barred.
If you live somewhere whose consumer protection law gives you rights that cannot be waived by agreement, this section does not take them away.
Before any of that: email [email protected]. Most problems are a misunderstanding that gets sorted quickly.
The rest of the agreement
- These terms, the privacy policy and the deletion page are the whole agreement between us about CommentSafe.
- If any part is found unenforceable, it is enforced as far as the law allows and the rest stands.
- Not enforcing a term straight away does not waive our right to enforce it later.
- We may transfer these terms, for example as part of a sale or reorganisation; you may not transfer them without our written consent.
- Neither of us is responsible for a failure caused by something beyond reasonable control, including an outage or policy change at Google, YouTube or another provider.
