Three routes, and what each one removes

There is no form to fill in and no support ticket to wait on. Pick whichever of these matches what you want.

  • Disconnect the channel — we stop reading your comments and our access to your channel ends. Your account and history stay.
  • Delete your account — everything we hold about you and your channel is erased, and your subscription is cancelled on the spot, with no refund for the rest of the month.
  • Revoke at Google — cuts our access at Google’s end, from outside CommentSafe, whether or not you can sign in to us.

If you want all of it gone, the short answer is: Settings → Delete account, then remove CommentSafe at myaccount.google.com/permissions for good measure. The rest of this page is what each step actually does.

Disconnect a channel

  1. Sign in at commentsafe.app.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Under your connected channel, press Disconnect and confirm.

The moment you confirm:

  • we revoke the stored refresh token with Google, so our access ends at Google’s end too, not just ours;
  • the encrypted token is deleted and the connection is marked disconnected;
  • we stop listening for your new uploads, and every check scheduled for that channel stops;
  • no further comment on your channel is read, scored or acted on.

What stays, for now: your sign-in, your queue and history rows (which expire on the 28-day schedule below), the daily counts, and the deduplication hashes. To remove those as well, delete the account.

Disconnecting does not touch billing. The $19 a month keeps running until you cancel it in the billing portal, or delete your account. That is deliberate — people disconnect to swap channels — but it does mean disconnecting alone is not the way to stop paying.

Disconnecting does not restore anything

A comment that was already rejected on YouTube cannot be republished — not by us, not by you, not by YouTube support. There is no API for it, and the same is true of a banned author. Comments that were only hidden are still sitting in the held queue in YouTube Studio, and you can publish them from there at any time.

Delete your account

  1. Sign in at commentsafe.app.
  2. Open Settings and scroll to the bottom.
  3. Press Delete account and confirm. This is not reversible.

This erases:

  • your user record — email address, name, profile picture URL and Google subject id;
  • the connected channel record — channel id, title, handle, avatar and subscriber count — along with the encrypted refresh token, which we revoke with Google first;
  • every queue item and every history row for your channel, including all stored comment text, author display names and comment ids;
  • the video metadata we kept for your channel, the watermarks that track what we have already checked, and the per-thread cursors;
  • your settings — thresholds, the auto-reject delay, the auto-ban switch, the four category switches, your known domains and your allowlist;
  • the per-day counts we kept for your channel;
  • your upload-notification subscription and its secret.

It also cancels your subscription, immediately, so you are never billed again. What that means for the month you have already paid for is in the next section.

Deletion runs immediately. The database is backed up nightly to encrypted storage, and a deleted row can survive in a backup until that backup rotates out. It is never restored into the live system on its own.

Billing when you delete your account

Deleting your account cancels the CommentSafe subscription at the same moment, not at the end of the billing period. There is no further charge, and nothing left for you to switch off afterwards.

There is no refund for the rest of the month. If you delete on day 3 of a paid month, the other 27 days are gone with it — the account they belonged to no longer exists, so there is nothing left to serve you with them. If you would rather use the days you have paid for, cancel in the billing portal first: that keeps the product running to the end of the period, and you can come back and delete once it lapses. Deleting during the 14-day trial costs nothing, because nothing has been charged yet.

If we told you we could not cancel it

Very occasionally Stripe refuses the cancellation while the deletion itself goes through. If that happens we send you to this section, because by then you have no account, no sign-in and no billing portal link to work from. Your data is gone; the subscription may still be live.

Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with and we will cancel it by hand promptly. Anything charged after the day you deleted your account is our mistake and we refund it. If you still have a Stripe receipt email from us, the link in it opens your billing portal, where you can also cancel it yourself.

Your Stripe customer record, invoices and payment history stay with Stripe either way. We are required to keep invoice records for tax and accounting, so those cannot be deleted on request.

What survives deletion, and why

Being straight about this is more useful than a blanket claim that everything disappears.

What staysWhy
Project-wide daily API totalsOne row per calendar day for the whole product: how many YouTube API units CommentSafe spent that day, across every customer. A date and two numbers, with no account, channel or person attached to them. We keep these for quota planning.
Stripe billing recordsInvoices, payments and the customer record live with Stripe, our payment processor. We are required to keep invoice records for tax and accounting, so these cannot be deleted on request.
Email we already sent youDigests and transactional email are in your inbox, and in our email provider’s sending logs for their own retention period.
Operational logsShort-lived server logs, configured to exclude comment text, author names and tokens. They roll over on their own.
Everything already done on YouTubeA rejected comment stays rejected, a banned author stays banned, a hidden comment stays held. Deleting your CommentSafe data changes nothing on your channel.

Two things people expect to see in that list are deliberately not in it. Your daily counts are counted per channel, so they go when the channel does. So do the SHA-256 hashes of comment ids: they outlive the 28-day text expiry described below, but not the account they belong to. Deleting takes the whole history row, hash included, which is why reconnecting later starts from a clean slate.

What deletes itself, even if you do nothing

Comment text is on a timer from the moment we store it. You do not have to ask, and we cannot choose to keep it longer.

  • Comment text, author display names and comment ids are erased after 28 days. The YouTube API Services Developer Policies allow 30 calendar days; we use 28 so a missed nightly run still lands inside the rule.
  • After that, a history row still shows the action, the reason, the four scores, the video, the date and the hash. In the app it reads “text no longer stored”.
  • A queue item you never resolved is emptied on the same schedule and marked expired. The comment stays hidden on YouTube, and you can still deal with it in YouTube Studio.
  • Per-thread cursors are pruned after 14 idle days, and billing webhook records after 30 days.

The same schedule runs whether your channel is active, paused, or disconnected and waiting for you to come back.

Revoke access at Google

You do not need us for this, and it works even if you cannot sign in to CommentSafe.

  1. Open myaccount.google.com/permissions. Google also links the same page from its security settings at security.google.com/settings/security/permissions.
  2. Find CommentSafe in the list of apps with access to your account.
  3. Choose Remove access and confirm.

Revoking stops processing; it does not delete rows

Our token stops working the moment you remove access, so nothing further is read or acted on. Rows we already stored are untouched by it. To remove those, disconnect, delete your account, or email us — and the 28-day expiry above runs regardless.

Ask a human instead

If you would rather not do it yourself, or you have lost access to the Google account you signed up with, email [email protected] and tell us what you want:

  • a copy of everything we hold about you;
  • a correction to something that is wrong;
  • disconnect my channel;
  • delete my account and everything in it — which cancels the subscription too, on the same terms as the button.

Write from the address on your account if you can. We respond within a reasonable time and within any period the law where you live requires, at no charge. If we cannot tell it is really you, we will ask a question or two before doing anything irreversible.

What we hold and why is set out in the privacy policy.

Other platforms

CommentSafe connects to YouTube, and only YouTube, today. Nothing on this page should be read as saying Instagram, X or TikTok are available.

If we add another platform — Instagram is the likely second — everything here applies to that connection in exactly the same way. Disconnecting revokes the token with that platform and deletes the connection; deleting your account deletes everything stored for it; stored comment text expires on the same 28-day schedule; and the same email address gets you a human. This page is the deletion route for every platform account you ever connect to CommentSafe.

Anything unclear on this page is our fault, not yours. Write to [email protected] and a human answers.
